got my first maran egg!!!

I have a young trio of copper black marans, and one of my pullets laid her first egg yesterday. It was small and, are you ready, light. About the color of a barred rock. Light tan color. I was happy for the egg, but disappointed on the color. I have seen the color of the eggs this trio came from and they were pretty dark, so I was expecting a really dark egg. Anyone know if this may get better.

I don't have a maran, but I do know if your bird was a hatchery bird, it may not have the best pedigree. Our "Ameracanas" were actually EE. and one layed a cream colored egg, the other two olive colored...not the blue that was advertised. The eggs still taste great but it is disappointing not to get the egg color that you dreamed of
