Got my first meat birds!!! (PIC heavy!!!)

Excellent thread! You did such a nice job walking us through the process. I am currently raising my first batch of meaties and it is nice to forecast how big they will be week by week.

I definitely appreciate the thread! My Cornish X's are 1-week old today...all of them survived the first week! For a rookie chickeneer I am proud of this. This thread is good to sho what I have to look forward to, especially those pics on pg 4 with the bird ready to go into the freezer (or grill, or oven, or turkey fryer, or...)

I adopted some 4-week old ISA Browns and an Easter Egger. A friend and I have a friendly wager as to when the CX's will pass the pullets. This thread would put it about week 3.

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply, life has been pretty busy. I did get 10 processed that were 7&8 weeks old and ranged (live weight) from 7lbs to just shy of 12lbs. I didn't get many pictures of the processing because it got dark on us fast. Here is the last week pics and the set-up. I only left one whole, the rest were cut up and packaged in shrink bags for individual meals.

love your culling setup it looks brill

is that cone big enough though

looks real thin like that bird wont fit and head wont poke out

The cone was big enough.......barely. When I ordered it, I ordered it strictly on the basis it was made for Cornish. Had no problem with them fitting, just had a problem with some of the hens necks being long enough to come out the end. I actually had to pull rather firmly (almost to the point of cervical dislocation) to get the neck out far enough to make the cut. None of the chickens backed out of the cone, but I would not order that cone again if I was going to get a second one.

BTW.... Thanks for the compliment!

This is the cone and I can't recommend it, but can recommend the company I ordered it from. I also got shrink bags and other accessories from them. I just wish the cone would have been more conical shaped and not slender, but I ordered it for the fact it was SS and not flat sided.

Here is a pic of the packaged chicken. 2 breast weighing in at a mere 2.2 lbs

you got a pretty cool poulty processing plant there hehe

very cool

i iwll have a look for the cone for ya

if i happen to find one in UK i will be glad to post it to USA as i know most companies charge silly money for international post when the true postage is so much lower

found a video of different cones here
