Got my goslings today!

Julie-your birds are so sweet! I didn't realize they grew SO fast! I ordered white Chinese...but I kinda wish I'd ordered brown now...Oh well, I'll enjoy whatever I get!

Lol, I think white geese are elegant and the brown are so pretty, it makes it really hard to decide. A friend on here has white chinese and they are adorable, I think you'll be happy. But yes, I thought I was prepared for the growing fast thing since ducklings do too, but the goslings put the ducklings to shame in that department, lol.

Ha, gotta tell ya'll a story. Had a little 3 lb Spanish Game hen that I gave 3 goose eggs to when she went broody. Only one hatched. They were White Chinese. The gosling was huge at birth, but mom and baby loved each other. As is my practice, she hatched him in a 30 inch square maternity pen, up off the ground. All was well. Baby doubled in size weekly and soon was the size of mom. Being a waterfowl, he made an awfull mess in that small space. I decided to move them to one of my regular pens and see how it went. My pens are 4 X 5 X 4 high and constructed using 2 X 4 welded wire. Of course being a standard pen for gamefowl, it also had a roost. Junior was as big as mamma and in her eyes, there was no reason why this huge baby shouldn't be able to roost. Well, baby was huge, but his wings were tiny and as yet unfeathered. No roosting for him, even if he was inclined to, which he was not. He made so much racket that I became concerned about him attracting predators. Sooo, I put them back in the maternity pen and the resulting show of affection brought a tear to my eye. He was quiet and cuddled with mom like he had missed her for a week. For a couple weeks afterward I moved them from maternity pen to the larger pen. Finally I put her back with a cock and turned him loose with the other geese. They welcomed him as geese are extremely social and family oriented, but he would have none of that. He was a chicken and nobody was gonna convince him otherwize. Probably took about 3 weeks for him to appricieate the company of geese. Ya gotta love'm............Pop

Thank you! What a wonderful story!

Yes. They are so much calmer than the ducklings. They like to talk too, I'm very glad I got them.
