I can give you some info on this about my 2.

They shed alot and i do mean alot, i can find cumps of hair all over my land on the ground and stuck to bushes and i live on a 100 acers.
Mine get along great with my 5 cats.

I have a rott,a pit,a aussie,a lab,6 wolf hybreds pups,a rat terrier, a weiner dog and just lost my beloved pom and they get along with every breed here.
When mine were growing up they eat alot and i had to feed mine 3 times a day to stay off hunger with one of them because he first thought chickens were food, not his fault he did not know any better but once he learned i never had an issue with him again.

They do roam, even with my acrage mine will go off the property like down resivor that runs along the front of the property, but i can say that i have talked to the neighbors and not one of them have ever seen any of my dogs so to me they are just roaming outside our property because we are surrounded by woods.

They are wonderful dogs IMO

I think that it's a weed called Creeping Charlie...DON'T GET IT!!! It is the most intrusive weed ever...yeah, it's pretty, but it will over grow anything that you have and drown out any flowers...once you have it, you CANNOT get rid of it...if you can, someone please tell me how cuz hubby brought some home after I insisted that he didn't and now I have had to move entire flower beds so that I can roundup to kill the crap!

BEAUTIFUL PUPS!!

Hopefully I do this "quote" thing right. I have a half grown pup as a house pet with my standard poodles and he has been great with the little kids, dogs, cats, baby goats, chickens, etc. I have several people that have found them to be big gentle quiet house pets. However they have a LOT of hair and SHED and most drool a little or a LOT and of course they take up half the living room. That being said I am adoring this boy (as I did my friends). He has been very easy to train but realize I have very good fences so no roaming allowed. We have cougar and bear so wanted him to "guard" the kids yet get along with livestock. I am into obedience and have typically owned cattle dogs, aussies, and St. Poodles so he is a little different (soft but has his own mind) but I think I am totally IN LOVE.

Bring one home as a pup and it will get along with everything you have. They are the most layed back, calm dogs I have ever owned. They will protect you and all your other critters to the point they will give their own life to protect love ones. Even these little puppies at 6 & 8 weeks are layed back but will jump up and bark when someone new comes up. They love to play with my 3 year old and don't even jump up on him. They are massive shedders though. I wouldn't have one in the house but their are people here on BYC that have chickens in the house so people have different ideas on what's a house pet!

They are gentle giants and really don't eat that much. My last one I had ate much less than my lab.

I dont agree that they are not good pets...I have owned three and all of mine have been pets and have been wonderful!!!! Its all in how you raise them...mine just guard us and the house instead of livestock and all three have been ok with that. The one I have now is 16 months old and he loves to be inside with us but also likes to go out with us when we are outside....they are WONDERFUL dogs no matter how they are used!!!

They are working dogs

I think you'll find plenty of differing opinions about this as far as Pyrs go. If you were talking about a Komondor or a Border Collie, I'd tend to agree, but Pyrs are capable of either, or both even.

I agree mine are both a pet and guardian and they take their guarding very serious yet are very loving dogs'
Now if we had nomatic flocks like the herders did that origonaly started using this kind of dog then yes because the herd would be moving and the dogs need to move with them and not be so attaced to people that they would leave the flocks prefering the people.
