I got an order from Murray McMurray on 2/8.

25 Broilers, and I had ordered 4 Cuckoo Maran, 2 RIR, and 2 Blue Andalusian. They gave me an extra RIR and a bonus rare chick.

Sadly 2 were DOA, which I think were 1 Blue and the rare free one. And over the next 24 hours lost the other Blue and 1 Cuckoo Maran.

I will not order just 2 of any kind next time. But I hopefull will be getting some Blue chicks next week from a forum memember hatching some from another forum member, which is why I love BYC

They are currently in their temp brooders in the extra bedroom of my house (which was against DBF's wishes but you can see who won that one haha). I bought a 54 gallon tote I will be putting my little layers in, and a Kiddie Coral my friend that works for the local DPW picked up from the dump will hold my meaties for another couple of weeks until they go into the extra horse stall. I will post pictures of this curious kiddie koral, My dad seems to think its from the 30s. It has screen and a cover, its the perfect brooder. Watch its probably worth money and someone would die to know I keep chickens in it!!!

I add cardboard and paperbags to the side for insulation- and take it away as they dont need as much heat.

I'm getting some meaties in March (my first batch) and wasn't sure if I should definitely brood them seperate from the others, its good to see a set-up that does that. Now, I can't wait to see that Kiddie Coral!

I was told you should keep them separate because they eat so much and grow so fast that they would over power the layers. And after watching the little meaties they would terrorize my layers and probably stomp them for sure!

Also I didnt have my meaties vaccinated. My layers are vaccinated for Marek's and Coccidiosis. So because of that I have my layers on non medicated and my meaties on medicated for only 2 weeks. So they are also on different food.

They are cute. I have one Blue Andalusian, and I think I will get another. I don't want white eggs, but I kind of like to have a few. She is a pretty hen, she is nice, and she lays well.

Of course I know which eggs are hers, because she is my only white egg layer.
