I didn't open the eggs, but they died, I candled them and was certain. I didn't want the sadness of inspecting the eggs if I didn't need to know a cause of death.
BUT, just so you know, I incubate in greenhouse trays with seedling mats. I agree, the real incubator makes it easier, but until my husband finishes the one he's started for me (DIY incubators are actually REALLY easy, if he or you are handy). Perseverance, and I'm only days from another hatch now.
Candle them once they're back to normal temp, and let us know what you see!
