Got Paint?

I'll be taking pictures of the whole process. It might sound silly, but this is a big deal for me. I've been sleeping in my living room on the couch (it opens but is horribly uncomfortable) forever, so I'm pretty excited about this. I live alone, so sleeping in the living room wouldn't be a big deal except that my neighbors insist on knocking on that door, which is the side door, instead of the front door. Plus it's a pain in the neck putting it back to a couch everyday and putting away the bedding!

So it will be really nice to have a private bedroom with an actual bed and walls of a color that doesn't make my eyes bleed.

Heck I wouldn't even bother with folding it out. I would just sleep on the couch itself unless it's not comfortable enough! Can't wait to see what it looks like all done!

Many times I don't bother folding it out. But I must sleep in a weird position, because the times I don't open it I wake up with awful neck pain. What actually ends up happening more often is that I just leave it open. But then if someone knocks it's embarrassing!

Just a little progress update. I started painting last night, finally having the day off and time to get going on it. I have to say, mixing the joint compound and paint was RIDICULOUSLY easy. I really think those that insisted I would need a drill and paddle must have never baked a cake. This was easier to mix than many cookie batters I've made!

It really was VERY easy, if not pleasurable. No baluster piece needed, I just sat there with a heavy duty paint stick and mixed it, quite easily by hand. The joint compound was much smoother and creamier than I remembered joint compound being. I knew I could do it, but I thought it would be much more of a challenge. So I was giggling to myself thinking that I bought this ridiculous huge stick in case it might be needed. Instead of doing it in a bucket, I actually used an old dish pan, which was perfect. It took a while to get the color fully mixed in with the compound, so in that regard, yes, a drill would have certainly been QUICKER. But as far as it being mixable by hand? Easy.

The biggest problem I ran into was applying it to the wall. I got it to the consistency that the guy in Home Depot described, but found it difficult to spread on the wall, using the textured roller. So I called my dad, the painter and asked him about it. He thinks I probably have it too thick and simply need to thin it more. Also, I noticed that the way it rolls on with the textured roller is quite nice. I don't even think I'll have to use the sea sponge at all, the way it rolls on looks nice just the way it is. I just need to get it to spread better, which I think will happen if I thin it out a bit more.

What a difference a color makes! It looks SOOOO much better in this pale greenish shade than that hideous bright purple!

So I'm still working at it, experimenting with the consistency, but it's going well and coming along.

And give that man something to eat for God's sake, he's spending way too much time online and protesting.... There's a McDonald's right behind him, someone buy him a cheeseburger.

I am taking pics, calm down you darn mob. But I'm taking them throughout the whole redo process and will put them all on my computer at once, when it's done, otherwise I'll lose track of them. Hey, you! Back up..... that's right, behind the line... don't make me use the smoke bombs.... good grief.
