I understand putting them on the chicks, but what about older birds? I have silkies and there is no way I'm squeezing this band over their toes & feathers. The state is testing all my flock (all silkies) on Wednesday and said they are required to band the birds, but would use the ABA bands (instead of the metal ones) if I had them. Well, I have them but I just don't understand how this is supposed to work. I bought all but the largest size (because my silkies aren't very big) but even the largest size I bought is not going to fit around their feet. I'm confused.

Sealed bands are made to go on chicks and not adults because they have a year on them. You will need to buy split bands for your older birds.

These were the only kind I saw on the ABA web site. Do you happen to know if they sell the split? My state tester said they can only use the metal bands or ABA bands.

Thanks, I will. However, in order for the state to put them on, they have to be ABA bands.

Where I live you can use the three hole adjustable with the crimp tool. ABA does not sell anything except the young bird band. If you use the ABA bands on feather leg birds wrap the foot in Saran wrap and it will not mess up the foot feathers. Don

I don't like the metal bands the state tester puts on and they said they could use the ABA bands instead. But, now I am realizing I will only be able to use those for chicks. I guess I'm stuck with the metal bands on the older birds since this is the only thing they will allow. They did say they could use wing bands but they don't provide those and I only ordered the leg bands not realizing how small they were and that I wouldn't be able to slide the larger size over their feet.
