Got the fat melting as I type! Need sugestions!

I'd fish out the lettuce and stay with seeds and dried fruit like raisins. Adding pb is a good idea...put extra in freezer so you can offer in small amounts. Should be great for feathercoat and keeping skin and egg chute moist.

cubing it and freezing it is a great idea. Then you can offer it when the weather is the nastiest. I think raisins and dried fruit would be a big hit.

I agree about leaving the lettuce out- anything moist is likely to allow mold or fungus to grow later, where the dried fruit and seeds won't be an issue.

I would think the lettuce should be left out also. It does not freeze well. It tends to get real mushy and turns liquidy after a short period of time. Maybe try freezing certain grasses chickens like or herbs they can eat and try freezing just in an ice cube tray in the refregerator freezer to see how it does. Most items like this have a pretty high water content and tend to just fall apart when frozen. But a great idea. I am interested now in making some. Can a person use the regular suet blocks that the retail stores carry for wild birds?
