Got to love these Old Coops....and Ohio weather!

Boy that is a huge coop! Looks pretty solid too, for something that's been there a long time.

Yep. Shes solid! And cleaning it... plan for a day to do it right! But, so worth it :)

We have a similar-ish situation. We can stay at at this house (my in laws bought this as a vacation home, but then they ended up moving nearby) as long as we maintain the house and property. Since hubby works a regular job, the routine maintenance mostly falls on me.

My hubby does a really good job of balancing all his work and still has time for us. Thank goodness! Since I teach and have an at home business, so the maintenance stuff is mostly him. But I'm not going to say....we ain't tired... cause we are!

Well, it's been almost a week since the storms that soaked the front of my coop. The wet shavings have come out... fresh back down. This coop has a dirt floor that is never wet, but now I can't seem to dry it out. We have set up fans, and put on the screen door that we never use to try to get it aired out. With the humidity right now, even this morning at 10am.. its 70% humidity.... I can't get ahead if it. I'm thinking of taking the small rototiller in there and turning the soil to speed up the process a bit. This coop has never had this problem. Right now... it just smells. Not sure what my next step should be. :he I won't spend another dollar on shavings until its dry, as I usually use them as well as straw for nesting boxes and leaves for the floor because... we have tons of leaves. Its not sloppy wet anymore... just damp.

Which is the 'front'?
Pics would help.
Where is the water coming from?
The coop sets on the side of a slight hill. This pic is the front half of it. It's not sloppy wet, but it has... in the 8 yrs I've been here, never been this damp this long. Usually works itself out in a day or 2. I'm just stymied on this one.

After a summer of waiting... the roof issue is being resolved! Worked this weekend to FINALLY get a NEW roof on the old girl! ALMOST got the whole thing accomplished until an unfortunate incident occurred with one of the roofers, 3 fingers, and the nail gun...
The "original roof" was found under the tin... as well as some damage... that is now resolved!

Adding on another 22 x 8 ft run to the Southeastern side of the coop...

Some are waiting patiently while work is completed.
