GotCha! Weasel in the hen house! WEASEL QUESTION? & **PIC**

I used suet for woodpeckers – a peace cut 1 ½” x 1 ½” x 1". I bought the suet at the local feed store. I think what sealed the deal was a smaller trap. - He/she (not sure which) was able to jump over the trigger of the larger traps I use for coon and fox. I did tie the suet to the back of the trap (two door trap) and only opened one door. Good Luck and once you catch the little bugger - don’t get your fingers too close- they are feisty! My larger traps I bait with sardines or cat food but have caught many cats - not sure whom they all belong too but wish they would keep them home. I have also caught several raccoon and wild mink. In the largest single door trap I caught 3 fox. I have never trapped a coyote but the fellow down the road harvest several each year. I am not fond of killing predators but I made the mistake of moving into their feeding grounds and enticed them by putting chicken and turkey on their plate. I try to deter instead of kill so I have strung allot of electric fence. The coop, pen and run are complete and pulsing right now, in the spring, I will start the perimeter of the field around the barn.

Unless you want to drive him a 100 or so miles and risk getting stopped, dispatch it. It will come back. Not a critter you want to have wandering around because eventually it will find a way to the chickens.

Capt. Crusoe :

Thanks for the "link". Good information and glad to know they are solitary animal. As for "Fight per Ounce" They seem like a real contender and I am glad he found the trap verses my feathered friends. Another trap is back in place until I figure out to do with this one. YIKES! Now I’ve got weasels! I just eliminated 3 wild mink not too long back! I guess there is no telling what all may creep and crawl our prairie and woods.

Thanks again.

ONly problem with "rehoming" them is that they become someone else's nightmare. Good luck.

Thanks for all the suggestions - but wanted you to know the predator along with the one caught last night #2 weasel have been terminated - they will no longer stalk my birds or anyone else’s.

I do hope you plan on dispatching this little guy. He is cute up until he eats your favorite hen. The local animal shelter will only destroy it. I have never really seen one of these critters. Plenty of possum, coons and armidillos though. I have a ground hog under the chicken barn and I have caught most of his family. This one is a young one, but he does not bother the chickens.
