Gothic kittens anyone?

I think the difference between livestock tags and earrings in a kitten's ears is that livestock tags serve a purpose; to identify and track the animal. Putting holes in a kitten's ears or neck serves no purpose other than the amusement of the owner. I didn't think before about very young children who have their ears pierced before they are old enough to give an opinion. While I don't agree with that, I still don't think it's the same as doing it to an animal. That child will be able to make a choice at some point during their life to keep the piercing or not while the animal never has that choice.

My first reaction was "that's mean!" but I eartag my sheep. Eartagging livestock (and docking, castrating, etc) serves a purpose. Piercing kitten ears for profit is simply stupid, IMO.

While I can't see the point in piercing a cat's ears. To each their own. I have to agree with the defense attorney. Holding a cat owner to higher standards is ridiculous.

As for infants, my ears were pierced when I was an infant. I had my ears pierced two more times as a teenager. I have three holes. You can't see them unless I wear earrings. I'm closing in on 40 years old, and I can make the darn choice to wear earrings or not. It's a ridiculous argument. Rest assured, if someone had approached my mother back then about my ears being pierced she would have gave them a tongue lashing they wouldn't forget. She had a doctor do my ears, and bought special baby earrings to do it. It's not a big deal.

Hmmm...from a legal standpoint, I don't know how I feel about this. Someone mentioned docking tails and removing dew claws. Then you have the states mandating that goats and other livestock have tags put through the ears at livestock auctions.
Yes, it's a silly thing to do, but should she be arrested for it? Docking tails and cropping ears is unnessary too. I dunno.

Seriously. This woman is my age....I am just hanging my head in disgust. I could almost understand some little kid doing this because its "neat", but a grown woman...COME ON NOW WOMAN!!!!

Tagging an animals ears for id is understandable, this is not...it's just "neat"...gaaaaaaagggggg

Cats Are animals, and unlike humans who may/or may not think its stylish, Cats DONT. Its an annoyance. Cats like to play it could get ripped off there ears ext. Its awful and poor judgment on her part. Were Humans are we supposed to be the smartest animals?

I agree with that. And I can see where a cat could get those things caught on something and do some damage. My cats and dogs don't wear collars unless I have the dogs on a leash for the same reason.
I just don't know if she should have been punished to the extent that she was for poor judgement.​

My dog wears her harness during the day and off at night. She is a puppy and I can catch her easier if needed but she is really good about coming to me when asked and leash her if needed easily.

Also farm animals are in a totally different category. Like apples and oranges there a fruit but totally different and you use them for different flavors. We butcher anything that gets tagged think about we kill them and we eat them.....goats, lamb, cows, and chickens Are you gonna kill a dog and/or cat and eat it same with a infant/child but you can do some things to some that you can't another you have to have good judgment and no the difference why you can and can't.....I would certainly hope not....the normal answer would be no. So you don't do the things you do to one animal to another just because they are an animal.


Luzerne County Judge Tina Polachek Gartley also ordered 35-year-old Holly Crawford of Ross Township to close her dog grooming business for more than two years. Gartley allowed her to keep her pets, which include a dog, three cats and three snakes.

I think this should be the reverse and not allowed to personally own indoor animals or any animals cause who knows what she might do.
