gotta love the chicken names

We have silly names for our girls: Smokey (because she's black) and Bandit (we
bought them together so she needed a name to
go with her buddy)
Thelma and Louise (OEG bantams)
Clem (short for Clementine)
Leopard
Chickpea
Muffy
Spur (Dominique girl with spurs)
Not Spur (because other than the spurs, we can't
tell them apart)
2 Delaware pullets who haven't been named
yet...

We had 3 roos: Tiny
Speck
Chocolatte

Ruby (RIR)
Miss Emily (Frizzled Cochin, Bantam- she just seems like one of the Baldwin sisters, always in a dither and in need of the Recipe!)
Miss Mamie (Isa Brown)
Lucy (Isa Brown)
Vivian Lay (Blue Cochin Bantam)
Colette (Mille Fluer D'uccle
Betsy (EE)

My Australorp Roo is - Bubblebut
Barnvelder Roo - Good Looking
Bama Blue Opr Roo - Blue Boy
Cochin/silkie cross hen - Goldilocks (best broodie)
Partridge silkie Roo? - Smokey Joe
Big silkie roo - The professor

Most of the rest don't have names.

I am new to the world of chickens, and came into it by accident when one of our neighbour's chickens was attacked by a coyote and we took her in and nursed her backt to health. Then we snagged another member of her flock to keep her company as our neighbour was selling his chickens the next day. We named them Chicken and Punkin, two cinnamon queens. Punkin got picked off by a predator a couple of weeks ago (sob) and I ended up getting 2 roosters slated for the chopping block yesterday. We have a buff orpington who reminds us of Momo, the mentally retarded Italian character in a movie who was big and sweet and at the bottom of the pecking order. Nini is the RIR banty rooster... Nini is an Italian endearment for a little fella. Chicken has now been renamed Bea. Beatrice (we called her Bea) was a masculine little old lady who used to live with us (we ran a senior's care home). She was tough and took no guff from anyone and liked to hang with the boys.

We have a variety of 50+ chickens, but have only named a few.

We have 2 three year old Buff Orp hens that are sweet as can be...until they are broody. We named them 'Fang' and 'Cujo'. My whole family agrees that they growl and grow fangs when you try to get the eggs out from under them.

We also have a Golden Laced Polish. My 4-year old tells everyone about her funky hairdo- hence the name "Teeny Turner".

The only other bird named is one of our free birds from a MM order - a beautiful Wyondotte Roo that we named 'Oddball'

Hi,

My son named my 4 girls. They are named after the 4 matriarchs.

Guess what, the names really suit them too... lol

So we have Sarah, Rachel, Rebecca, and Leah.

Sarah is top hen right now, but we were expecting great things from Rebecca, lol... she was the largest and most dominant when we got them but she is actually the last to develop. so it has all turned around.

But they are wonderful anyway.

Jena.

My experience with naming chickens includes the advice that you should never let your three-year-old, Matchbox-car obsessed little brother name the rooster, or he will be named something like King Comb Motorhome.

Other chickens I've had were Henrietta, Mrs. Red, Pecky (she was a very unfriendly RIR), Antonius "Antonio" Horribilis (my Phoenix roo), Spike, P.D. Bird (named by a class of schoolchildren), Barney and Gloria, among others.

Only two of my twenty-one are named, mostly because I have multiples of each and can't tell them apart. My SLW cockerel is "Einstein", because of the day he was about two inches from the open gate, but spent about five minutes trying to go through the wire. A bit of sarcasm there, I guess. The other named chicken is a SS pullet who earned her name "Leona" the day I tried to pet her and she bit me. Not pecked, but grabbed hold and twisted. So she's the "Queen of Mean".

My Rooster is named Darryl&Darryl. A few decades ago, when my daughter was 5 years of age, she was adamant about naming her favorite "knot top" chickie baby 'peckerhead'. We suggested different names, but her mind was made. Fortunately, all adults would study their shoe tops when she would talk about her favorite chicken.
