I bought a used 1502 (yellow, little bit older one) a couple months ago, from a reliable source, who didn’t seem to have any problems with it. I have had the worst time incubating/hatching with it.

I have several thermometers placed inside the incubator. While not terribly accurate, they seem to agree that the incubator temperature is lower than it’s set. If it’s set to 101, the other thermometers indicate 98-99. We’re averaging readings 2.5-3 degrees less.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Would replacing the internal sensor possibly solve the problem?

Or you could simply adjust your setting to agree with your thermometers, regardless of what the readout says on the bator. ;)

Do any of your thermometers tell you the max and min temps that were reached or have you monitored over a period of time to see how stable it is?

Can you post a pic, since the sportsman cabinet is all that comes up.

I use a hovabator 1602N and Genesis. I put extra blankets around to help it stabilize, making sure not to block air holes.

If it is still air their will be a difference between the temps at tray level verses the top of the eggs. Usually about 2 ish degrees.

Happy hatching! :jumpy

Thanks so much for the reply. I am posting a pic of the incubator. It isn't a new model, but I can't say how old this one is exactly.

I don't have a thermometer that records a history of the temps. Good idea though. I will see if I can find one for a reasonable $$.

I did adjust temp up to 101 or 101.5 this time.(It only goes up to 102°.) As with many incubators, it has hot and cool spots throughout the incubator, and I admittedly don't have a good grip on those temperature differences.

I'm going to take the back off this weekend and give it a good vacuuming out. Now that it's empty, I will spend some time moving the thermometers around the incubator to see what the readings are in different areas.

Thanks again for your help!

For this reason I move my eggs to a new spot in the bator daily to help keep my hatch frame tight. It has worked well.

My family would have a stroke if I came home with a bator that big! :D
