GQF Incubator

That is not front and back thermostats. The wafer thermostat is only used if the electric one goes out. The person who sold me mine could not get the temperature to go under 102. He thought there was a problem with it. I finally figured it out. Only use the wafer as a back up in case the electric one goes out. It's a back up system you use in case you have eggs in there and the electric one goes bad, so you don't lose your eggs. I also could not read the info on line so I called them and told them I was unable to download it. They were gracious enough to send me a instructional booklet in the mail. Is all your trays in yours egg turners or do you have individual trays?

I think I may understand a bit better what the instructions are saying without actually saying it. Not sure but I believe temperature will be higher the closer you get to the heating coils.

Mine has 3 shelves for egg trays and the bottom shelf is a hatcher tray

On the model 1550 hatcher i have,i just unplug the wafer thermostat altogether. The electronic thermostat is very accurate and dependable. It stays at 100 degrees very consistantly.

My luck hasn't been so good lately so I'm definitely not going without the secondary t-stat. I've read some horror stories from the days before they came with 2 t-stats and will learn from them.

Lucky, I saw where you posted the instructions and expressed some confusion with the dual wafer setup. I believe you said yours is a 1200 series which have the thermostats wired in series. This won't apply to the 1500 series which have an either-or wiring setup. Once you have the rear wafer regulated at 102 lock it down and leave it alone. Then adjust the front thermostat, weather it be electronic or wafer to 99.5. The object of this is that should the front thermostat fail and the temperature start to run up the secondary thermostat will catch it at 102 which isn't too hot to do any real damage and you will note it next time you look at your thermometer. Then you can adjust the temperature down to 99.5 with the rear thermostat until you are able to repair or replace the front one.

Thanks cooper! I put myself in timeout and came to a similar conclusion as you've stated. I honestly don't know if this bator is a 1200 because I guess GQF doesn't see a need to put a sticker on them?? Through pictures here and there online I've decided it must be what I have. It seems to be holding the temp well so I'm hoping its ready to roll.

I'm curious if anyone else has tested whether their top shelf with the humidity pan will read a higher temp than the rest of the shelves. Mine does and no matter what I try its always the same. I have 7 different thermometers going so I know its not a fluke :)
