Gr. Pyr Puppy Madness!

my GP herds my 21mth old around the yard and if she wnders too far she will grab her by the jacket and drag her back to me. i think it is kind of like chicken fetching except with a human lol.

Yep. We had the same problem with our now 11 month old Pyr. She actually was caught with two dead chickens at different times when she was 5 to 6 months.

To break her, my husband made her stay with him at all times when she was out of her puppy run. She managed to sneak off and he caught her in the coop eyeing the chickens and gave her a swift kick in the behind and told her NO. She now walks among all the birds and doesn't even bat an eye at them.

Hoping this is just a stage for your pup and it learns like ours did to leave the birds alone.

Quick update:

Yesterday I fed the pups, and then tethered them to a large tree near the coop while i did all of the outside chores. They watched the chickens for a while and then watched the wood pile and then took a nap. Before we went indoors, we walked through the coop on-leash, and worked on "leave it!"

They will walk right past quiet chickens, without giving them a second glance, so it is just the noisy squack-toys that bring out the mischief. We will keep working at it every day.

p.s. I took pics, but I can't find my cord to upload from the camera to the computer! ARGH!
