and now Gracie is all by herself. She is two weeks old and starting to feather out. I tried to put her under my broody yesterday and that did not go very well at all....so she is in the house in the brooder all by herself. I was going to the feed store today to get some mulching hay so I thought it might be nice if i picked up a friend or two for her.. any body have any experience placing day old chicks with older ones.... will she accept them as her buddies??? She will be big enough to go out in the coop by Friday .. I already have the dog cage set up for her.... but if she get some new sisters she can wait another week or two to go in there.. what do you guys think???

we had a situation that left a 6(or so) wk old as the only chick. Got new ones and tried to introduce them to each other. She was not having it. She would peck at them relentlessly. We removed her and are keeping them separate at this point. dont know how we are going to do it later.

there are lots of people hatching right now.....post something on craigslist and try and find one, really you need two more, that are the same age as yours....chickens need friends...they are much happier that way

I added three, one week olds to my survivor that was 3-4 weeks old. They think she's their mother. She's very nurturing to them. Let's them snuggle under her wings and gets panicky when she's not with them. I don't know if she's just a very nurturing bird or if it was the right age difference or what but it's worked out beautifully. Good luck!!

I know that she needs friends... but she is at such a strange age... hopefully they will have some chicks that are a bit older.. but the chick I culled was only the size of a day old chick.. so maybe she won't notice.. I have to buy three at the feed store... there is nothing on Craigs list unfortunately

Good luck. Sometimes they are a little older at the feed store because they have just not sold yet....you might just be in luck!

Seems she is about the same age tthat crossgirls chick is so I would give it a try. And yes I would go with at least two friends for her. I believe based on my experience it better to had three than two because there will always be one there to keep the other company. I got two in the begining and when one went to lay the other one went balistic!

I introduced day old chicks to a couple week old chicks and it went fine. Just watch them for a little while but I think it varies with every situation and the chickies temperments. Good Luck!

I just put babies a few weeks apart together and they love each other, for a few days I had a divider in and they could see each other and the other day just took it out and it went great

If you where a little closer I'd send you Madonna, I have a two week old chick whose buddie died....

But she should take to the younger chicks very well.
