This morning my mom mentioned she didn't know how long the broody had been setting in the upper retaining wall area in the garden at their place. I head over there after work and hear a chick peeping in distress. The hen and an unknown number of chicks were still up in the upper retaining wall area, but one chick was on the ground level and running back and forth yelling his head off about being separated.
I wrangle some help and manage to catch the chick, then the hen and the rest of the chicks and get everyone to a secured enclosure with food and water. Turns out there are 7 chicks and the hen was NOT happy with being handled and moved around. Darn chicken wasn't supposed to hatch for another week so I could put my incubator babies under her too.
How likely do you think the hen will be to take additional new hatched chicks in about a week?
