Hello! I know this thread is older but I'm really concerned. I made an account just so I could post about this. Last year we got chickens for the first time. Only four, but they were my ladies. Our dogs all got out back in April and killed three of the four. I got new chicks so my remaining one wouldn't be lonely, but they're not quite big enough yet to let them share the same coop. I know that since the three ladies died I haven't had to buy a new bag of food (because it was new and just opened a few days before the attack) so I understand that it's older now and will have grain mites. My issue is that the grain mites aren't just on the feed bag and bin (threw out the bag), but on the chicken coop, the metal bars that make up the chicken run (I mean like... Dripping from some of the joints) and the tarp that covers it. I know chemicals don't kill them, so I sprayed everything down with hot soapy water. I thought it helped but the next morning there were even more! So I busted out my DE and threw it all over the food bin, the water bin, the run and tarps, etc. Will this actually help? I've never seen grain mites before, but how did they suddenly get EVERYWHERE?!? I just walked out one day last week and there was a fine coating of wiggling dust all over everything! It's only her coop, too. The new chicks coop and run has no signs of them, despite being only five feet from her run.
