AGAIN I will say that we are not talking about forums, FB or other internet chat areas. We are talking about professionals who can't spell and don't practice good grammar. We are talking about journalists, teachers, TV stations, businesses and billboards. Things like that. We are not directing this at BYCers! We don't care if you can spell but keep in mind if your spelling and grammar are really horrible not very many people will read your posts because they either can't understand it or it's so jumbled they can't follow!

I think if people take the time to read all the posts then they will understand that we aren't targeting them and won't get offended. If they happen to be one of the "professionals" we are talking about and don't have good spelling and grammar skills then I hope they are offended and do something about it. I don't want to read a newspaper that looks like a third grader was proofreading it!!

Also the fact that the thread is still going fine is testament to itself that we are just having a friendly conversation about something that irks us. No harm done!!

I will start off by saying that the grammar and spelling of most of the people on here is decent. (from your first post)

I understand clearly what your saying and I have read every post in this thread.....but you keep saying you don't care if people on this forum/s can spell or not and you are not referencing them but you keep mentioning it in a round about way.

Just saying it is offensive to some BYCer's.

I don't care and neither does anyone else in this discussion as we have said. Again we are talking about professionals!! Probably the fifth time I have said it!! Not every subject on here is going to suit your fancy. 80,000 people on here and you are not going to agree with everyone of them. We are all entitled to our own opinion! I suggest if you find something offensive on this thread or any other thread then please just quietly leave and no harm done!

There are a lot of threads on here that I don't agree with and some that I even find offensive to me but I just click the back button and find another.

Signing with "your mark" was never signing with an X. It was a complicated drawing that would be hard for anyone else to copy. Then your mark could be checked by looking an older documents that you have put "your mark" on. So knowing how to write has never been needed to sign documents an never will be needed. Cursive is nice to know but it has also never been needed an never will be ether.

Yes, DDawn, but have you also caught yourself saying "fixin "? instead of "getting ready to"? or caught yourself calling a garden hose a hosepipe? Thats when you know you have been in the south too long!!

This is how it should be Rammy.

Oooohhh!! I was not kidding, though, when I said I did not get it. I knew that once someone pointed it out, I would. That being said, I do agree that people who work in the media, as well as teachers teaching today's students, should properly teach correct grammar and spelling. I do not agree that cursive writing should no longer be taught. I do agree, though, that some people who do write in the cursive style often have unreadable writing, but it is sad that we are moving into an area, because of technology, that will make the art of writing, spelling, and proper use of English obsolete.

On another note, it takes all I have not to quote someone and point out a mispelled word. Drives me nuts to no end.

Sometimes it might be a reason. I know I make many errors due to using my iPad. Little key pad and typing to fast. Also I have suffered from dyslexia all my life. So it at times makes my text messages seem bad. Do I mean to ? No I don't be I also get rather upset when my fault is pointed out. I am not stupid nor uneducated. Nowadays so many people use computers it is not required anymore to do written out things. A lot of short hand and so forth. Schools do not educate , as much as now they educate according to testing. Why two of my kids are home schooled. The only reason my youngest isn't home schooled is because his Autisum. I see a lot of great teachers but sad the district and state laws tie their hands so to speak.
I know off me one thing that bugs me is when someone will say "me and Timmy went to the mall . " I prefer proper wording " Timmy and I went to the mall." I correct my husband and my kids. But then I also make them say "thank you" and "please" . Even at food places because I am firm on manners. So I might me a little lax on text, but in person I am old fashion. But I do constantly deal with my dyslexia every day. So if I come across as a tard, I am sorry.
