I'm the spelling-nazi at work. When I check my employees drawings (I am an engineering supervisor) I insist they correct their many spelling errors and I think there is a lot of resentment because of it.

I tell them that the people that will be using these drawings are professionals, engineers, bankers, architects, zoning officials, etc and that their confidence level in our work rightfully goes down when they see numerous spelling errors. I remind them that when I see their careless spelling, my confidence in their work also goes down (which is not a good thing in this economy, particularly when I've already laid off 3 of my 8 employees.)

I agued long and hard with a supervisor about the spelling of access vs excess.. he was never convinced by me that an extra road was an excess road..

I've worked for universities since 1997. It was drilled into my head to use proper grammar and correct spelling b/c I was seen as a representative of the quality of education the university where I was employed would deliver to its students.

I haven't read all the posts so this was probably already mentioned, but...

when you say you are nauseous, you are saying that you make others feel ill, and I doubt that was your intent. you are NAUSEATED!

I know this has to have been mentioned on here...not reallly planning to look through all those pages. I just can't stand it for a second longer!!!!! I am not that picky....I am quite lax myself. I just can't handle seeing one more post...."I have eggs for sell" I am having a huge sell on my eggs" "I want to sale my eggs" I THINK I AM GONNA HURL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why is this happening? I have NEVER, in the real world, seen anyone do this!!!

My pet peeve has to the the misuse of one single word .........LIKE !!

Example :


''Does anyone here, like , know what I , like , am trying to , like , tell you ???? ''


.....My granddaughter can't complete a sentence without the use of that single word over and over again!!! WHY???

Aww! I missed so much!
I correct my friends and family all the time with bad gammer and pronounciation.
Whats funny is I have a hard time spelling certain words correctly.
I bet I spelled word wrong already.

I am amazed to see so mony people misuse their, there and they're. It just about drives me nuts!
I agree with luvmychicknkids the "sell" and "sale" It bothers me as well...well more then bother

When I look on craigslist in the farm and garden, there are everyday words mispelled and misused.
I often chuckle to myself and my mom always asks what I'm laughing at, and I just tell her she wouldn't find it funny.
I'm glad I'm not the only one!!
