grandbaby is doing awesome

they put off the MRI until next week. ith dr says it's just precaution to make sue mds are working.he will be on antibiotics for 20 .more days. $e now weighs 4lbs 10 oz. And gets 4 bottles a day ans he now eats all his formula

So glad little Ayden is doing better - the weight gain is really really possitive. Here they start to think on sending them home once they reach the magic 5lbs.
Hope your Dd is well and that you get baby home soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There really is no magic 5 lb. What they typically look for is a stable, healthy baby who is gaining, not losing weight. Prayers for all of that, and that he and his family, doctors, nurses and medical staff be surrounded and upheld with wisdom, strength and love.

Sonoran - Just so you know - Here there is a minimum weight they consider - so yep here we do have a magic 5lb. ( I had my twins in special care prems.) Even if a baby is stable and gaining it never goes home under that weight here. You do things differently I am sure over there but I am in Ireland!!!!!! NOT usa!!!!!

I think it really depends on the hospital and the doctor. I know mine has a checklist that has to be met before they can go home. They do have to be higher than 5 lbs but they also have to be eating, wetting, and pooping well. Also if they have jaundice it has to be under a certain level. blah blah blah. Anywho I think its really just what the doctors medical opinions are.

Thats what it is here exactly!!!! - over 5 lb and all the rest but still they have to be over 5lb - thankfully little Ayden is heading in that direction which is really positive stuff.
I am not sure why they focus on the 5lb weight + but they do and it seems to be here anyway the norm that babies under that wieght don;t leave hospital no matter how well they are and babies over that weight have to be assesed on all those other things too but they have to reach that magic 5 lbs before home is even concidered.

Anyhow - we had to wait 5 months before our twins reached that weight and werwe able to come home so I am hoping that Ayden comes home long before that!!!!!

Youngest ds was 4 lb when we went home. We'd have gone home 2 days earlier if my internal stitches (c-section) had not broken open. They were actually ready to release him, but not me; they were able to keep him since I was not yet able to leave. His weight was not a real concern with the doctors once they had completed testing that showed him healthy and gaining weight. The nurses were another matter; they were not at all used to a healthy, but tiny baby, and that became a real issue for me.

grandson is doing amazingly well. He is going home in 2 weeks.his feed tube is out.and now weighs 5lbs 2 oz. They put him on formula with less calories because he is putting weight on too fast.i held him for the first time today... He is 5 weeks old

Great news NOW WOULD YOU CHANGE THIS DARN THREAD NAME TO SOMETHING MORE POSITIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
