glad you have joined us.

It seems that most who use those do so because of either wild birds or rats having access to the chicken feed. The main negatives are ants and potential hazard to young chicks. You should explore the threads on the subject to decide what fits your situation.

My flock are confined and a hanging feeder works best for me. I also prefer to wash their feeder once a week and don't think you could do that with the treadle type?

Well i wouldn't wash my feeder and my main concern is feed waste..want to stop their scratching feed out of feeder onto ground..that is just feeding rats and mice

There are a lot of different feeders around. I looked at the treadle feeders as an option but the cost to buy one was too high for us and DH hasn't had time to try building one. What we use now is a 5 gallon bucket with 3 pvc elbows inserted around the sides. This works pretty well for us but we're always looking for ways to improve things. If you get a treadle feeder let us know how it works out for you.

Thanks for joining us!

I did order one gonna try with my australorps..they eat alot and are too big to be wasting it on the ground..
