Granny's gone and done it again

I keep forgetting we have a long summer here compared to others. May-September. And usually september is our hottest month.
All of your kids are cute. Even that 2 legged one cheezin in the last pic :love

The I wish I had pics of mine to show you but that was before we had a computer. There might be a pic or 2 in a book somewhere. I’ve fed several kids when I had goats. They stayed in the bathroom and I’d be up every couple hours making a bottle. I had to use premie bottles because normal ones wouldn’t fit. Oh how I miss those little buggers.

Our “summer” as a season is the same as yours. But our “summer” as a work period is only 8-10 weeks. We have camps from late May til the last week of July, sometimes the first week of August because school starts early around here. September is our hottest month, too. It’s wild that we have suck similar weather. What’s your growing zone?

Hello everyone I have a concern about my easter egger. For the past 3 days she has been laying broken soft shelled eggs. Ive only gotten about 3 dozen eggs from her so she hasn't been laying for long. She stopped laying for about 2 weeks back in december shes been normal now until the soft broken shells. Any ideas? should i be concerned?

They can lay soft eggs for lots of reasons, biggest being lack of calcium. What do you feed her? If she’s not on a layer feed then you should supplement with crushed oyster shell (at feed stores) or you can crush egg shells to give back to her. Stress can also cause soft eggs, so maybe it’s this crazy weather, change in pecking order, or a predator. Just set the oyster shells/egg shells in a small bowl/pan near the feed. She’ll take what she needs.

Speaking of eggs...I think I got a egg from Daveys pullets that I hatched in June. They buried it in the nest box:lol: Ditz is still laying a little egg so I know it doesn’t belong to her. And Seuss is molting still so not hers. Plus it’s slightly darker than their eggs and also MUCH bigger. Now to figure out if it was Blue or grannys chick.

Freezing rain when I went out to give corn and water. Now it’s snowing again. The two biggest bridges in LC are shut down because of ice. I was comfortable in the barn and I only had coat/hat/gloves. My boots weren’t even tied and I was wearing yoga pants. So I’m sure everyone will be fine. I realized last night I’m missing a pullet, the one with a crest and feathered legs. Hopefully I can make another like her.
