Granny's gone and done it again

@campingshaws sorry about your roo, praying it wasn't Josie. I had a possum right out in front of my chicken runs in broad daylight last week. It was pacing the fence trying to figure out how to get in. I flew out the door with s spade shovel in my hands. I managed to connect 4 times with it before it crawled under a small deck. Not certain if it hurt it enough to kill it, but I sure hope so.
I whacked one to death with a broom once, it was trying to get the guinea pig!

But DIY is fun and exciting when it works!
Sometimes the best birds you will have are from what nature created in your own barnyard. My favorite way is to watch momma hen do it, but it's pretty amazing to watch eggs that you've nurtured for 21 days evolve into a tiny little chick. For me it is just as exciting to watch them hatch as it was the very first time, it never gets old.

Sweeter Heater?
No, it's a hard plastic rectangular shape that has 4 legs & when the chicks are under it warms them. The brooding area must have an ambient temp of 50, but as long as it is not drafty where they are at I'm sure my coop has not always been 50 degrees. Chicks feather out fast & are so much healthier compared to the heat bulb chicks.
