That is how my Dad hurt one hip, falling off a horse. I was saddling a horse and Dad planned to ride it around to tire it out so my brother could ride it. I told Dad i had not tightened up the cinch yet. He goes galloping away and fell on his hip! He thought you should always go full speed ahead, like they do in the movies. I had to go out and get him laying across the saddle to bring him back.

We took a horse out of a neighboring pasture that had been abandoned... no water and no food. My dad put a bareback pad on him and I started riding him. One day I got a little careless, and he zigged while I zagged and came right off and hit the ground. I remember his foot coming down right near my head as he came to stand by me. I was stunned and the pain didn't start until I tried to stand up. Turns out that was a championship cutting horse. Joke was on me because I was never taught how to ride. Also, we didn't have a western bit, so he wasn't used to English.
