Some people have no life or family, so their pets become their " children ". I hated it when my Mom changed my dog Twinkle's name to "Baby". Makes me want to puke. I love my pets and would be upset if one dies but they are not my children.

Yeah, I know, I have my dogs they are my pets, but they are not my furr children.
