My mom would use those for her emergency/survival supply storage. This past summer I found 20 lbs of dried beans and 25lbs of rice in a barrel in the barn along with extra clothes and blankets. Beans and rice were dated 1998. They still LOOKED good.![]()

LOL and they probably still were. I would have cooked it all up in the lard kettle with the chicken dunking water and all the chicken bits we didn't want ie...heads, feet, innards and then feed it back to the chickens. I know mine will love the trimmings and bones from the pigs. Extra protein in the winter is a good thing. AND FREE![]()
