when I started it was either smoke or drink, and since dad was an alcoholic and I don't like the taste of most types of booze.

I started at 9yrs. Stealing them from my parents. I didnt smoke because it was "cool" I was a loner. I craved them . Maybe from 2nd hand smoke ? IDK They are more addictive then most drugs.
