Granny's gone and done it again

She was cradling the chicken in her arms when I drove in. I looked at her from the car window, then made her carry the bird to my house. I drove and started gathering supplies. Then I had her hold Berry while I washed my hands and looked her over, found that deep puncture, and put her in the box. She was crying when I said “if she’s alive in an hour, then I’ll work on her. I don’t want her stressed in her last moments.” Then I washed my hands again and made her leave.

DH gave her the practical advice... like a runner line in the front yard. She has a small terrier that she treats like her own human child. But this black dog... anyway, I’m not sure what’s going on but she’s not really taking care of either of them right now. She asked us to let them out yesterday morning, so I did. She said she’d be home in a few hours. But this morning she still wasn’t home. I can’t see her house unless I go outside, so I just assumed she was back. Her poor pups were inside alone all day. They have food and water, but still couldn’t go out. DH said if she does that again, she has to rehome them.

She lost both of her stepparents this year (or a little more) and one actually died here while visiting. She performed cpr while waiting for the ambulance. Her bff is getting married in a few weeks, and her mom is pitching a fit about putting friends before family. So it really seems she’s not doing ok right now. As upset as I am about Berry and all the others (Jep, Jim, Briar), I can’t bring myself to me mean about a chicken.
Whose house does she live in? Is it her own?

This one is for sil.

Sarah’s dog got another bird, my australorp pullet. I told DH that the next time I see that dog outside in my yard I’m going to SSS. So he went and talked to her this time.

He reminded me that Josie killed chickens. Yes, I am aware. But I didn’t keep leaving her unattended in the yard. I actively blocked holes as she dug them, too her to the farm to train, worked with her on commands, and walloped her with dead birds. Sarah keeps leaving her dog outside because “she doesn’t want to come in.” Too bad, she’s a dog and shouldn’t get to make that decision. If my dog was killing my neighbor/friend/boss’s pets/livestock/moneypits, sure as shooting I’d have my dog under house arrest. Sarah has oral surgery last week and I know she doesn’t feel great, but she could always have asked us to just dog sit awhile.

The pullet doesn’t look good. Eyes closed and opening her beak in that gasping way. No feathers at all on her back. There are tears in her skin, but none of that looks bad. There’s a pretty deep puncture at the base of her neck. I put her in the dark bathroom with the heat on. If she’s alive in an hour, I’ll go clean her up a bit.
That is a horrible neighbor if you ask me. Take lots of pictures. She should be responsible for vet bills...

2 rounded scoops for a 5 cup coffee maker and I think they are TBSP
Sure, if you like weak coffee. ;)

I can’t bring myself to me mean about a chicken.
Given all that preceded that statement, the poor woman has to be severely depressed. She's in a deep hole that takes time to climb out of. I hope she gets some help!

there you are Cap. You feeling better ?
Not as much pain but i got chilled being outside for 2 hours. Apparently my right boot has a leak in it. The hose is still under the snow so i am toting gallons of water around . Lots of them. And then i have to get the ice out of the waterers.
