Granny's gone and done it again

My sweet little 20-somethings are planning a women’s retreat at the camp. I’m helping them plan, and I’m in charge of inviting the “older” women. :rant During a meeting they saw a note in my planner for incubating eggs, and we got to talking about that. Then they asked if we could hatch during women’s retreat. We had exactly enough time.

I went on fb to find local eggs, said the flock was for the summer camp and used for education, so breed didn’t matter and mixes were fine, and that I wanted all egg colors. Then I had to sit down and cry, because offers started rolling in for people wanting to donate eggs. One lady even gave me 50lbs of chick feed for after the hatch. :hit Even my breeder friend is donating a dozen eggs. I’ve been given purebred RIR and marans to mutt layers and even mixed ducks.

We all have our moments, but I will never stop believing in the goodness of people or the kindness of strangers. So I’m loading the bator tomorrow!

That’s so sweet camping!!!

Man. This vnd issue getting close to me makes me think. USPS generally routes stuff near there for me. I just hope my bitties stay safe in April. Meanwhile...other than my mpc order, no chickens in or out of my flock for the next while.

Gotta clean out the chicken coop and look at digging a ditch around it. The way the grading is...water flows right in there. Sigh. I think my coop redesign will be a raised coop - shade underneith and ramp to coop itself. May need to work some magic for ease of cleaning but I’ll figure that out. Bright side...no more rain for a while. Phew.

You may want to reconsider letting chickens under the coop. What if a sick or injured one gets under there? Will you see it? Plus they may decide to lay eggs in there.

So screenshots of old pictures so I can find em again easy. So my whole coop/run itself is one big mesh trailer thing with a solid floor. (It has better roof on it now too)

I was thinking I could do 2-3’ legs underneith and the raised floor. That way I could still crawl under if need be. But I don’t know. If I do it a height where the chickens couldn’t get under, I wouldn’t be able to either and then mice etc May be an issue.
