Granny's gone and done it again

Oh no! I’m so sorry Camp. Nothing poisonous that he could have got ahold of? No plastic? Bites?

No, not that I could see. There was poop behind him and it looked like he was straining at death, but it wasn’t out. He was so covered in flies I didn’t check his mouth. He was already really bloated, like a deer on the interstate. So maybe bloat? DH said he wasn’t very energetic a couple days ago.

Did you get the colostrum replacer?

No just the milk. I’m pretty sure she got colostrum and if she hadn’t, it’s too late now.

Lost our bull Sir Loin. No idea what happened, he was just in the field covered in flies. Can you take a fecal from a dead animal?

The new calf is scouring bad. I stopped milk, gave spectogard and probios, and a quart of electrolytes. It’s been so wet and cool, I’m afraid it’s coccidia. Do cows get it the same way as chickens? I can take a fecal from her too.
Sorry for your loss! I think pups can get coccidiosis, so why not cows?

Yeah, if an animal looks off, time to treat is immediately, in my experience. Nothing to gain by waiting. Did hubby tell you, or just shrug it off? I have learned this the hard way. Goats can drop dead fast. I have no idea on cows.

they bloat up after dying. They fill full of gas from the stomach, laying on the side pinches stuff but if you roll them some will release. If he was straining he could have been impacted.
Oh same as chickens as far as signs, I forgot to put in the other reply.

Cows can get it, but is it from dirty water likes chickens? They’re across camp in a field by themselves.

He didn’t tell me then. Today he said “sir didn’t come to me when I brought them feed. I brought it to him and he stood up to eat.” So he wasn’t feeling good.

I thought they took a couple of days to really bloat like that? I knew they would from seeing roadkill.
