No, you are doing the right thing. Take your time. Research. Where are the health tests for animals he has bred? Everything is German based.
You can’t 100 percent guarantee a living animal. Stuff happens but a good breeder will stand behind their breedings. Ask him for a copy of the pet contract. Read it thoroughly. Ask if you can meet the parents. I still don’t like the fact that he breeds so much. He has three bitches he has just bred. Unless he has beaucoup people working for him I don’t see how he could socialize all those puppies. That’s is why my pups are whelped by bed and at 4 weeks they go in the living room.

I think it looks like a high volume breeder.

They are higher volume and they do have a staff.

I like the idea of the home whelping though. It gives you as a breeder a better idea i would think of temperament etc., more exposure for socialization.

It’s funny so you go on a waitlist for a breeding. At two weeks they go down the waitlist and ask for a deposit. I asked him how they figure out which pup goes to whom at two weeks - they’re still so new at that point, I can’t imagine personality making itself known that early on.

I thought I had someone interested in a silkie rooster. Went out in the rain and got a picture. He said he has others to look at. Sigh.
