Granny's gone and done it again

I have never seen one with that nice of color Chick. It almost looks doctored up. Beautiful.
Nope, that is his original color. His comb and waddles were a shocking contrast to his plumage and as richly colored as his feathers. I had offers to buy him and came close once but now am glad I didn't.

This is Trubel at about 4 months. Those Fayoumi genes really make them mature faster.

This is Tut, my Egyptian Fayoumi rooster with one of the SDW OEGB cockerels and one of the Amish barnyard/bantam crosses

The two barnyard crosses together . I like these birds a lot. I've never had trouble with them being aggressive towards me. They beat one another up regularly and I have what I have dubbed the 'One Eyed Rooster Club' that has about 5 members right now. They have settled down a lot since I created the bachelor pen, thank goodness. I need to get a pic of the boys there. They remind me of a bunch of old men sitting outside the barber shop. They just set on the roost and watch the younger roosters all day.

Yep, I did my homework. Wish I had before I had bought my original flock of Buff Orpingtons and Welsummers. I would have never bought them.

I've lost one hen. Don't know what happened to her. Don't think it was Marek's though. She had never thrived even as a chick was alway thinner than the rest. It happens. The chicks from MmcM hatchery. I'm thinking about ordering 6 more hens next spring. Or maybe 5 hens and a rooster. I was supposed to have two roosters but one died upon arrival. If something happens to Tut, it will be up to my barnyard crosses (which are local birds and seem to be much more resistant than my BO's).

Mine are a bit flightly but not standoffish. They eat out of my hand. Compared to my OEGBs they aren't cuddly. I have one hen who still scream like I'm tearing her head off with my bare hands every time I catch her. She gets all the other birds doing that alarm cry when she does it.

The crosses aren't as flightly but they have definitely inherited that scrappy OEGB gene which the Fayoumis don't have.

I think that's what I really like about the Fayoumis. They don't like to fight, at least Tut doesn't. He's funny. If a bigger tougher rooster challenges him his attitude is, okay, dude, they're yours! And he retreats. The other roosters will fight until they beat the opponent down or injure him so he retreats. But they won't stop till they win or lose.

I had a lavender Orpington Rooster that was a beautiful bird. Not that noisy either. He was the second rooster I lost to Marek's disease. I was a very upset flock keeper at the time because I didn't know what was killing off my birds.

Larry had what appeared to be a massive heart attack. He was only 18 months old and within a weeks' time lost a lot of weight then suddenly fell over on his back and was gone.

Hope you have a quiet boy there Cluck. He's gorgeous.
How did you know it was mareks.
