trying to wash ashes out of your hair and just "not " the way we do things up here.

The priest normally dips his thumb in the ashes then makes the "sign of the Cross" on your forehead with that ashy thumb. In these Covid days, going from person to person doing that is a recipe for contamination. And possibly lawsuits. Not a good plan. Sprinkling ashes much safer.

Well, my DD and SIL indeed have no water or power. So are they going to spend the night at a warming center? No. They are going to sleep in their CAR. It's 32 degrees out, or was at 8 pm. They'll be fine, SIL says, who had a stroke a few months ago. What could go wrong?

Why in the world would they choose that. Hope they are safe.

Mine too. They'd have to be better than good to get me off Claussen's though. Claussen's are crispy cuz they are never cooked. You can't bend a Claussen's pickle!
