Ok ok.. can be both. The tree variety.. Grevillea robusta is also commonly found in Hawaii. Think it's a weed there. They use it as timber. It's a really beautiful hardwood that grows damn fast.

I had key for California native plants from college. Book was well over 1000 pages. It got left in a box under the carport for a few years and when I found it, it had been eaten up by mildew. Bummer. Wasn't a cheap book. Everything's online now.
