Man, I just aged myself big time.
I think "hoot" went out with "groovy," and "outa sight." Which I also still say, by the way. And also "Dude." Which I use without regard to gender. It used to crack me up when my son called me that.

Well, for me, it wasnt exactly “lookie there”, but we just changed the famous saying into it. Does that make sense?

Probably. I actually got it from an "older" woman (back when I was myself a "younger" woman) in a secretarial/clerical club of some sort. I was in my 20s and she was retiring, and we "roasted" her, we actually poked a little fun at her for saying "what a hoot!" all the time ... and next thing you know, I was saying it! I quite admired her.
