Granny's gone and done it again

then he might also be likely to guard his space, if he's dominant. I agree he needs off.
Not sure I agree, now having all the facts. Not at his age, if this is the ONLY couch the dogs are allowed on. This was a "perfect storm" situation. I don't think it's likely to happen again. Granny can explain this to Robert, right, Granny? Robert was on the dogs' turf. In future, if that's necessary, the dog will need to be on the floor, not where he can climb on Robert. And Robert needs to watch out that the dog doesn't climb on him so he isn't startled into swatting the dog. What do you think, Granny, is this doable? Can Robert understand that the dog did not hurt him on ourpose?

yes he knows it wasnt on purpose. Just startled him and it left a good 6 inch scratch on his back

What I have been wanting to do for a long while now is get rid of this couch and save a cushion for the dogs and get a new love seat. I think that would put them on the floor.
Sounds like a very good plan. Keep them off it from the start. May need to rearrange furniture so the new one does not go in the same spot.

Maybe leave the old couch cushion where the old couch lived. That can be their spot, on the floor. 😊
