they looked like they had a black body. Does that sound right?

Hmm. I thought wasps were black and yellow. We also have mud daubers that are black but they don't sting.

Roberts worker said he mixes ice cream salt w/ vinegar to kill weeds. Have you ever tried something like that?

Then it was a mud dauber. They CAN sting, but they don't. They usually only sting spiders and such to feed to their young.

No, never heard of it. Worth a try though. Non toxic.
