I really think some chickens will lift your spirits! They are amazing animals! Unless you have a disease living on your property?

I would love to have just 3 for pets and eggs but I dont have a run on my coops anymore . I am disabled and was really struggling to take care of them especially during winter But when they were all gone I think I just parked myself in this chair and decided I was done doing anything.

3 would be perfect! Maybe a Maran, Comet, and Easter Egger!

I see why it would be hard though. I really wish you could get a few more birds! Maybe a local craigslist has someone giving away birds with a mini coop? That is how I got a prefab for quarantining birds.

Some hardware clothe could work well for a run! It could be a short run that opens on the top.

Winter issues as in? Water freezing? Frostbite?

A prefab coop, although not the best, could definitely fit a couple chickens. If it is closer to your house, it would be much easier to maintain.

water was the worst. I had heated waterers but to fill it I had to use the hose then blow the hose out and that was really hard on me.

You would LOVE to hatch some poultry! I know you will! But maybe roosters are too complicated.
