I wear Nitrile gloves. I wear gloves a lot in the kitchen otherwise my hands dry out really bad. I do make my own ointment and that helps but I try to protect my hands as much as possible. I ordered 4 cuckoo Marans pullets. Much cheaper than the French Black Copper variety, but should still give me the nice dark eggs! I also ordered 4 blue Rocks for cream eggs. I'll have a well-balanced basket!

Cuckoo Marans are known to lay a pinkish brown. Great breed! Cuckoo and barring is the same gene, so they would be another good candidate for BSLs.

I made that mistake thinking because they were marans they would lay dark eggs too

I will see if I can change my order. But I could get the cuckoos for about $4 ea., the FBCM would cost me around $12 ea. Shoot. I may order them anyway.
