Granny's gone and done it again

I am looking around for more goats. There are two that are likely pregnant for sale. Such great pedigrees for both too! :barnie

Hammie is doing very well. Mostly working on practicing for a show ring now. The apple tree is my pretend-judge and it comes pretty handy. I hope the judge doesn’t ask me any difficult questions! Better educate myself well!

The broody hen is doing good, but I may have given her too many eggs. She is sitting on 14 now and sometimes one egg won’t fit entirely under her. Pea is now out in the coop. He is pretty lonely most of the time, but still hanging in there. Nobody is bullying him though. Well, apart from the occasional peck.

Alpaca breeder raised her price to $1600 for two. Might be reasonable, but we have decided alpacas are not for us 🤣

Wishing, today I finally got my poppy seeds in the ground! The ground is quite damp from lots of rain lately (and more to come, supposedly!) so I kind of scattered it where I want it to grow, among grass and weeds, pretty much as nature would do. Weather should finish the job.

My chicks are doing great, only two very minor cases of pasty butt so far.

Nine meaties ....

.. eight little layers. I'm amazed how much wing feather they all have already, at only 5 days old!

I've taken down my bird feeders due to AI, but had this suet cake left. It's on the front of the house opposite where the coop is. Was startled to see an oriole on it today! Don't know if this pic does it justice, it was mustard yellow. Least, I think it was an oriole!

We had poppies blooming in March! Lot have gone to seed and round 2 is blooming everywhere. This will go on for a few more months. Hope your seeds grow for you.

Those little meaties are too cute to eat! When I was a kid we had a big dog, real sweetheart, never bothered any of the farm animals... except for fluffy chicks. If he had the chance, he would gobble them like hors d'oeuvres! They were safe once they got some feathers.

So far so good, but he's not as active as normal and respiration is still high. Maybe a vet visit is in order. See how tomorrow goes.
How is Star doing?
The same, falling down and pooping in the floor. Its getting pretty annoying.

Friendliest chicken I ever had was a cornish X . I dont know how people can raise them for meat and their so short lived its all their good for.
I had one that fell off the slaughterhouse transport truck. Didn't know what he was when I grabbed him off the center line on the highway, but he was still alive. Few others were dead nearby. He was sweet and big and grew even more. Then his legs gave out. I had him euthanized. That was my intro to meat birds. I had no idea before that.
