My SIL and BIL are moving closer to us, having a house built where we will be able to see it.. They have two unruly dogs. They came by here the other day, walking with the dogs. Now the dogs know there are chickens here. This is stressing me. Big time.

Sounds like you need a really good fence.

One of the dogs is so out of control it is all the husband can do to walk it on a sturdy leash.

There is no way to fence our property. A road runs right through it that the cattle people use a couple times a day to feed their cattle. They need to fence their dogs in. It's hard to explain.

Laying hens cost about $25 each to replace, don't they? But aside from that ... I'm pretty fond of my hens. I could keep them in their run all the time, I guess, but they are accustomed to free ranging part of each day.
