I really doubt our well was contaminated. It's on the plateau, so unlikely to have flooding like that.Hi all.

When I was in my 20s my parents had to bleach out their well. There was a torrential rain one day that washed across every field around the house, across my horse corral, across the yard including the vent for the well that was in the back yard.
Turned on the water one day and out came brown water and powdery horse poop. Houston, we have a problem. I called the health dept and they said to bring in a water sample. I did and within the hour they were calling us and saying, 'absolutely do not drink your water or use it for any cooking or bathing'. Seems that the flood had washed field chemicals and horse crap down the vent and contaminated the well. We had to pump the well dry, add about ten gallons of bleach, let it set for 24 hours, pump it dry again and then retest it. It tested clear after only one treatment. They were lucky. In the interim though we were hauling water from town in every container we had in order to cook, wash up and water the horses. It was fun...not.
Makes me wonder if something like that happened to your well also.
Spent the day out cleaning the coop. Been waiting two months for the Amish guy who trades us our hay for straw to bring the straw he owns us. He got about 11 big round bales and I don't know how many square bales of hay and we have gotten......nothing. I've been waiting till we got the straw to clean and they are calling for snow tonight so it was now or never. Bought four bales of pine chips. DH got in touch with the Amish guy who says he can't find straw. HUH? Is it he can't find straw or he can't find CHEAP straw? I suspect the latter. He brought us down a bale of brome hay to use. Nope. We told him don't want it. It doesn't absorb moisture and dry the way straw does, it stays wet and it stays slimy. In the mean time I'm out in 25 degree weather mucking out a coop.
The Amish around us are ummmmm strange? Yeah, that's the right word. Strange. You can go to the community next to them and it's completely different. But I'm totally disappointed in the ones around us. Somebody described them to us as being hillbilly Amish but frankly I think that's giving hillbillies a bad name.
