Granny's gone and done it again

Morning Cynthia, I need to leave around noon.

Power came back on, but not for dad. He had an outage a few days ago too. Getting ridiculous. There is a young couple a few doors down from us. They have an adorable 2 yr old boy and last month, the mom had twins (one of each). 3 little babies to care for is hard enough without the power going out all the time. Poor #1 was in the shower. No fun if you run out of water before you rinse the soap off.
I get the whole "first world problem" thing, and really I am always grateful for the basics of life, like clean running hot water... it's an underappreciated miracle! But these dang power companies have got us addicted to our conveniences and gadgets, and it's like having the rug pulled put from under you to suddenly be cut off. Paying an arm and leg for it too! sigh
Rant of annoyance is now concluded.
I hear you. They get us bent over a barrel.
Sigh. I just found out my bestie is positive for Covid. She's been running a fever since Thursday and keeps saying how exhausted she is (in all caps with exclamation points, poor thing). She lives with her semi-disabled dad and takes care of him and recently rescued a pup she now can't take care of, either.

Covid sucks!

I'll take her some soup tomorrow.
Ugh. Tell your bestie I hope she's feeling better soon. The exhaustion is real, Goose is going stir freaking crazy. Thank gosh the rain stopped. May be able to run him out a bit in the back yard with the ball or something.

I'll have to have hubs check his temp this am, but his fever's been kicking around more stubbornly than mine has....I think he ended up with it a bit worse than I did. My cough still isn't that bad....still random bits of lung butter but, it's not like I need to take cough suppressant to sleep kind of thing. It's more the worn out for me still lingering. He still gets random chills, sore throat....general blah.

Granny - drive safe.

It sounds really good. I love mushrooms but Robert wont eat them.
Whenever we have spaghetti, I cook up a little pan of mushrooms to use in place of the pasta. Yum

We still have water when we lose electric but it will run cold pretty fast Glad its back on. Your dad wont have heat ?
He has a wood stove, so is all set. Can even cook on it.
He's been there for over 50 yrs now, been through pretty much everything, and is better prepared than most.

Is it bc of storms, Wishing?
Not lately. There is a safety shutoff function that is suppose to activate if a branch damages a line. The one in our area (about 1200 homes) and a couple other large grid regions have trouble with the software... shuts the power off too quickly. They are trying to fix it. Trying. And still trying. At least now they are getting power restored in a couple of hours rather than days.

I saw a T-Shirt today with the caption:

"I Think I'll Let God Handle This Because if I Do I'll Wind Up in Jail"

Man I can think of a whole list of applicable occurrences I could use that one for.

Miserable here today. 38 Degrees, rain, wind. Blech! I woke up tired and have spent the day yawning. Just can't wake up. Now I need to write checks, pay the taxes...another BLECH! and a couple other bills. Tis the season to be broke....fa la la la la la la la ........:tongue

@prostar. Glad to hear that you are feeling better, bummer that DH isn't. I'm keeping you both in my prayers. Feel better, both of you.

We lived off gird here for 4 years. Had rural water but no electricity. Used a generator and a few solar panels for simple lighting and to power a computer and TV. I cooked off a wood stove.

In 2012 we said that 's it. We've proven that we can live off grid and it's 114 degrees outside. We put in wiring that summer and the first switch we threw was on the AC. We were up at sunrise digging the trench for the underground power cable from the box on the pole, set in front of our little fan from 10-4 then back to digging. Same for running cables in the attic. It was miserable but we did get a good feeling knowing that we could survive without power.

Now we still heat with wood and I do on occasion cook a roast or bake chicken using my Dutch oven on top of the wood stove.

Well, his fever isn't triple digits anymore, but it's still 99.5. Sigh. But, goingdown? Yay?

BossLady was emailing me about my parent's care package. Said pending how I feel I might try the trip down to grab it tomorrow and to grab a few more things I can handle from home too (or rather,g et one of the office guys to grab it for me cause...not going inside) and she freaks out that I'll need to text VP before I show up so he can leave my stuff outside...uh, yeah? Not stepping foot in and spreading this. I feel like my life may be a bunch of curbside pickup and distance for a while yet.

Today i woke up as usual and climbed in the bathub to soak. And the longer i sat there, the more tired i got. Came downstairs and simply couldn't stay awake. So i slept on the sofa until about 4 when i woke up. By then the goats were ravenous and Misty was trying to butt her way out of the barn. It would have been nice if someone let them out!

Thank God, DH and I haven't had it....yet. I think people are amazed that we haven't gotten it so far but we have basically become monks and nuns. I go into the feed store and Amish bulk store wearing my N95 mask and we both wear masks whenever we go to the doctors or pick up groceries. There is a bottle of hand sanitizer in the van that we both slather on our hands and exposed flesh. Neither of us can take the vaccine and have serious concerns about it's safety even if we could. I've had endocarditis and he has serious reactions to vaccines. Not worth the risk.

Our social life is non existent and I think we have really gotten used to life this way. We talk to our neighbors outside, we text them if we need to get in touch with them. Do we like this? No, we hate it but living healthy is important to us.

Prostar you and your husband hang in there. If we were closer I would be bringing you a big pot of Pennsylvania Dutch Rivel soup. If Chicken noodle soup is Jewish Penicillin, this stuff is German Penicillin on steroids!

Of course I'd be leaving it on your doorstep ringing the bell and running like hell towards my bottle of hand sanitizer....

I hear ya Cap.

Up at 8. Spent the morning dozing on the sofa. Couldn't keep my eyes open. Figure it was because I had to take extra pain meds for two days thanks to my neck pain and it finally caught up with me.

Note to self...don't take the pain med in the morning for two days in a row.

Luckily DH stepped up and took care of the dogs. I'm heading out now to take care of the birds.
