I'm going to invest in high quality ones this fall for breeding and conservation of this lesser seen varietyOOOOOOHHHHH you have a Red Pyle rooster! I want Red Pyles so bad. He's gorgeous.
Yeah, I will be vaccinating my chicks most likely. I have raised a variety of chickens but I do want to have a project and be able to show.I want to add some fresh genes to my flock probably next year. I found that My Pet Chickens sell small numbers of birds. Most want you to buy 15 or more. I just want a half dozen Fayoumi hens and a few bantams and Red Pyles are definitely on that list.
Having dealt with Marek's Disease for years and my original flock being quality birds from a private breeder I learned that there are no guarantees. Since my birds are pets and egg producers for us hatchery birds will do just fine plus I can have them vaccinated for MD and whatever buggies are out there.
Having worked in the rescue industry and with rescue orgs 100% deep research the rescue. Good ones will make sure the animal goes to a matching house and not whoever pays the most. They also will realize when it's better to euthanized a suffering animal instead of milking it's misery for donations.@Granny Hatchet or anyone else wanting a dog.
The “rescue” stream is a money-making scam. The best interest of potential buyers are completely ignored, the welfare of dogs is thrown to the curb, the lies that are spread to the general public are obscene. Buy your dog from a rescue or from a breeder, I care not. It is a free market. But do you gosh darned research and make sure ANY dog is the right choice for your home and lifestyle, make sure you have researched the person or group you are getting the dog from, and for eff’s sake…DO NOT BUY A DOG ON A WHIM OR BECAUSE IT IS CUTE OR BECAUSE YOU FEEL LIKE IT. Also, realize that most “rescues” are nothing more than brokers and all they do is buy and sell dogs. They do not “rescue” them, they buy them. Whether from another shelter (or brick and mortar humane society) or a puppy mill, these dogs are bought and sold with no care for their health, temperament, or welfare.
