Granny's gone and done it again

Thank you. Its a shame you have to give up what you love . If I had auto water that would work winter I would have it made .
Is there such a thing ?
Nipple waterer pipe system w/ heat tape might work for your mild winters. Wouldn't be quite 100% automatic but as close as it gets.... Would be even easier if you could find a way to get a hose run out there all winter. But then the electric bill skyrockets.

Correct. That's just an example of how you could hook up a hose and so just turn the tap on to refill water.

thanks Banty
I dont know the right words so bear with me. The spicket at the house, I have seen people add those to their yards. It has a very long red handle you lift up. I guess they tap into the water line and bury it below freeze line. Then a hose can attach to it. I wonder what it would take to have one of those installed right in the coop ? They are not supposed to freeze and with deep liter method the ground would also be warmer. Then turn it on and fill em up. Have the tub under it and maybe a heater in the tub.

Still have 12 happy, healthy babies running around the coop.....so much for buying extra to account for loss, lol. We ended up with buff orp, speckled sussex, easter egger, barred rock, RSL & BSL. They didn't have delaware or leghorns, so we took sex links instead. The rocks and sussex are all a week older than the rest so everyone is 1-2 weeks at this point. Must say, this brooding in the coop is fantastic!
Woohoo! You got your chicks! And they are OUTSIDE!!

Hoping they were hiding under broody s wings but probably false hope.
Hope they're ok. Sounds like a good mama.

Chickens fed and watered . I asked Robert if he could come out and flip the 3.5 gallon and put it in the coop for me. He did ! Told him he didnt have to GO in , just set it in. I have a polish/serama out there that has been fluffed up and staying to herself for 2 days. I was going to check her out today but she was dandy and there was an egg laid in the run. I am going to assume it was her. Robert also filled the big water container I have (through the fence) and shut the water off for me. I was shaking / trembly in the legs from what little I had done.
Wow. Robert helped you! That's great.

Have to make a habit out of that.
