Yes it is. Easy to pick without bending down.

do they vine themselves or do you have to tie them?

I can get bamboo poles here for free to grow beans on. Asparagus may grow ok here but may not get but 2-3 cuttings before a hot day get to it and it becomes bitter.

Asparagus grows like a weed in the ditchs by farmer fields of hay or corn. It's really good. Fresh.

I had a 4' wide x 200' long asparagus patch in MO. Ate it fresh most days and froze all we could before it got bitter from that first 85 for so day.
