Oh my goodness. Not your time. So, @Cynthia12, to answer your question. I was in Lincoln, NB at a 3-day church seminar with my pastor's wife and another lady, learning how to make our children's Sabbath School classes better when this happened, a distance of 540 miles from home. At lunch on the second day I had a horrible pain in my upper abdomen that doubled me over and I knew I was in trouble. I'd experienced this pain before, 14 years earlier, in 1999, and it had resulted in me having my gall bladder removed. But without a gall bladder I didn't know what could be causing the pain. I just knew I needed help, and NOW. Long story short, I got taken to a hospital and had a procedure to remove a blockage in my common bile duct. I have no idea how it was done and I was in such pain I didn't care, I didn't even think to ask questions. That's not like me! My pastor's wife took the other lady home and came back for me the next day. Or two days later maybe. I don't know. I was in no condition to ask questions. I just remember the doctor had nixed the idea of me going home to be treated. I wouldn't survive the trip, he said. But that's not the worst of it. Five or six weeks later I got really sick. Actually I didn't know I was sick. I was just so COLD and couldn't get warm. The weather was cold so I thought it was that. But hot showers, warm clothes, even an electric blanket didn't help. I couldn't stop shivering. I had a Bible study to give the next morning so I went to that, and while there, still shivering, I threw up in this lady's bathroom. I called my husband and my pastor, who was nearby. He took one look at me and called an ambulance. The regional hospital checked me out and sent me to a bigger one, in St. Louis. I was septic. I later learned the dye that had been used in the original procedure had not properly drained from my body and had gotten infected. I had to have another procedure to save my life. I didn't feel sick. Just very, very tired. There was another woman from our church in this same hospital at the same time, who'd had a heart attack. We nearly lost her, too. A friend of hers named David from another Adventist church came to anoint her. James 5:14. It was suggested that he anoint and pray over me as well. He did and I began to recover. The other lady recovered as well. She's about to celebrate her 97th birthday! My DH drove 3 hours every night after work to be with me, and 3 hours back home. I think I was in the hospital about a week. I didn't care about anything. I've just been so weak ever since. My immune system has been very poor. I've felt like 90-year old woman. I've had no energy and I have to rest a lot. But like I said, I'm finally starting to get stronger. Finally! Praise God!![]()
