Granny's gone and done it again

We are currently raising chicks, we have 2 cuckoo marans, a rhode island red, a black star, a white crested black polish, and a wyandotte.
I'd like some marans. Have had lots of Rhode Island Reds and loved them so much. It's a little on the warm side for wyandottes down here possible. Have a black star roo as a pet. Had a Polish or two back in the 50's.

:frow I'm a creaker! Here in SE MO, my DH and I have 22 laying hens (11 pullets and 11 OG, aged 2 to 4+), and 16 5-week old lavender EE straight-run chicks. I'm a victim of chicken math, as my hen house/coop only holds about 25 according to conventional standards. The babies are currently in an outdoor brooder, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do when they get old enough to move into the big-girl coop. Cockerels will "go to freezer camp," and my oldest OGs as well, for broth and dog food. Hopefully all will work out.

we are raising all of ours for pets and eggs, mainly because we have a vegetarian in the house, and I wouldn't want to butcher chickens we raised in a brooder, and also because we can't have roosters.

And now I must leave y'all for a bit, I'm going to "pull a Larry" and go work outside in what passes for a garden here. It's a 2' x 20' fenced area the chickens can't get into and I have some started herbs I'm going to put in there for a kitchen garden. Wish me luck, my knees are not up to much these days!
